Garden Consultation
An hour (or longer) of expert advice, based in your garden. The consultation responds to what you need – whether that is identifying mystery plants, choosing a site for a seating area, or making difficult decisions on what needs to stay or go.
You might want to know where to put your new seating area, or where to put the lawn (I’ve been known to get out marker spray!). I have helped people make minor but effective changes to increase privacy, advised on planting schemes, and given people the confidence to put their existing plans into action.
If our discussions result in a tangible proposal, and you would like to see it drawn up, I can produce a quick sketch representing our discussion as a drawing. This will be a simple graphic representation, and won’t include any further design work, but sometimes, seeing a drawing can enable a client to visualise the discussion better than anything else.
My clients had bought the house a few months previously, and wanted to plan some changes to do themselves over the next few years. The garden sloped up from the back of the house, and there were several outdated structures in place.
The clients were garden novices, so we started by walking round the garden and identifying each plant. I explained which plants were healthy and thriving, and pointed out a few that were not growing well. The garden was in full sun and the soil was clay-based, so some plants were unsuitable for the conditions. There were other plants which were too vigorous, or self-seeded, and I advised taking them out.
I identified a good place for a seating area – a flattish area a little way up the garden, and together we planned a new pond and vegetable area, as well as how to make the garden more inviting from the house.
It was a really enjoyable hour, and the clients messaged me the next day to tell me that – enthused – they’d already made a start!
